We Love S'mores - October 2012

 Greetings!

It finally got cold enough for a traditional Fox s'mores night. Brandon lit a fire; audience and actors from Picasso and Bloody Bloody gathered around roasting marshmallows and sipping hot cocoa. smoresAnd we all discussed the plays and argued a little and told stories.

Some thousands of years ago humans gathered around a fire and Theatre was born.

The stories probably started simple, like what my kids are doing and where is a good place to get food - kind of like the stories around our little fire.

Then they became more complex - teaching, warnings, religion and the beginnings of comedy. I imagine those early campfires were the verbal equivalent of cave paintings. Art.

Sure, our skills and style of storytelling have changed over the millennia. The campfire is mostly gone as a venue but we still want to gather to hear a good story told out loud. I believe humans innately value listening and want to share and remember the experience with their tribe whether it be a dozen or many thousands.

Join us around our metaphorical fire this fall and winter (and we just might bust out the marshmallows!).

Ben Dicke Productions presents

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

Through Oct. 28, 2012

If we accept our leaders' words as truth, are we qualified to choose our leaders? On the heels of the Presidential Debate in Denver, Ben Dicke and company explore that very question and more.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is a mashup of rock tunes about the rise and fall of our nation's 7th President. Some revered him as the people's warrior. Others say that he was a bully and a racist. Truth be told, he was all of those things.

Ben Dicke as Andrew JacksonHe was his own contradiction. He was a Democrat and a tyrant. He was a nationalist and a supporter of states' rights. He defended the political rights of the man on the street but ignored the territorial rights of Native Americans.

This is a timely and important history lesson set to a rock score that's funny, irreverant, clever, self-mocking and anything but boring!

Click here here to make your reservation or call 303-739-1970. Seating is limited. Tickets are $25 in advance. $30 at the door. You can also follow the Bloody guys on twitter @bloodydenver!
